Bevagna and Montefalco

The ancient Mevania (Bevagna) owes its great development to the Roman era, when the consul Flaminius identified the territory as the central point of the commercial and military route between Rome and Ravenna. The generous presence of rivers and springs of pure water increased the population of rich merchants and skilled craftsmen. The tracks of the massive Roman theatre of the 1st century AD, capable of holding up to 10,000 spectators, bears witness to the great social and political growth during the Roman Empire. Montefalco, called “the terrace over Umbria", is an enchanting hill-top town characterised by fortified medieval walls and a tradition of gastronomy and wine, one of the most important in the centre of Italy. Its precious fabrics and production of red wine, Sagrantino di Montefalco, still today celebrate its heritage of the most illustrious Imperial vineyard and Papal residences in Umbria.

Todi and Montecastello di Vibio

Todi was founded by the Umbrians in 2700 B.C. Later on, first the Etruscans and after the Romans held the power of the town and built numerous monuments, most of them still here to be admired. The actual artistic identity of Todi is the result of a peaceful period during the 12th century, where marvellous monuments like the Palace of the Captain, the Palace of the Priori, the Cathedral and beautiful St. Fortunato church were built.
Monte Castello di Vibio is a fortified castle, founded before the Romans. Due to its position, nearby Todi always aimed to conquer it. But only in 1596, was Todi able to fully control the town. During the age of Napoleon, Montecastello di Vibio enjoyed a magnificent rebirth of artistic splendour and the village participated actively in the development of a new era. It is during this time that the Teatro della Concordia, the smallest theatre in the world, was constructed.
